1991/J Mk2 Golf GTI 8v 5dr in Bright Blue Metallic
sold to 1st viewer-Lancs
121,000 miles. FSH in original service book. Many bills
Last sold by us to 3rd owner in 2006. They traded it in for a Mini Cooper S at a main dealership from where we purchased it direct. It was re-registered from Father to son and back again so there are now 5 keepers on the logbook.
Toad Power Key immobiliser with certificate.
1991 model year car with power steering, central locking, diagonal stripe interior in addition to usual steel sunroof, front fog lamps, MFA trip computer (works perfectly).
Full service history - 14 VW stamps to 16/9/04 then 14/9/05 by reputable specialist. We serviced it in 2006 and it was serviced by a VW main dealer in 2006 too. Just serviced by us
Good quality Alpine CD/tuner. Electric aerial. Braided brake hoses.
Complete owner's manual wallet. Spare key. Mudflaps. Set of genuine VW rubber mats.
The original registration mark of J772 PEH happened to be the same as the last owners initials so they have retained this and the DVLA have assigned J868 RHA instead. We have the new logbook and tax disc (to end of 6/10) and MOT again to June 2010. We have fitted new 'volkswizard.com' branded number plates.
Originally supplied by Brincars of Cannock, it was sold again by them to the second owner who worked locally, on 16/8/94. Nearly 12 years later, he contacted us when his parents relocated and with a longer distance to travel to see them and the need to carry 5 people in comfort, a people carrier was purchased (a VW Touran) and we were invited to Cannock to view the car.

The 2nd owner of this car was the kind of person I wish every Mk2 was owned by, mature enough to take good care of the car, solvent enough to have it serviced properly and sensible enough to keep it largely standard. In 2010 the bodywork and interior are still superb - in 2006 we had not washed the car or even vacuumed the interior before we took pics (which made a nice change). We did fit the BBS RA alloy wheels which are fitted with good Goodyear Hydragrip tyres and locking wheel bolts. I don't buy cars because the colour is rare hence this was our first Bright Blue Mk2 (we've sold another since too), but if I can find a lovely example that happens to be in such an unusual and attractive hue, then that is a bonus. Before sale in 2006 we fitted a complete genuine VW exhaust system. In 2010 the Mk2 driving experience remains intact but this time we have done the following preparation work - two wheels were refurbished, full service and inspection on our ramp (it's exceptionally solid underneath), new Pagid front brake discs and pads, full seats-out valet, replacement of the corroded tailgate (pics of tailgate from 2006 here), leather gear gaiter to replace worn original.

The condition of the interior is really hard to fault. The bodywork is very good for the age/mileage but there are quite a few stonechips to the front end and door bottoms which we have touched in as best we can. Some bodywork repairs have been performed but the paintwork appears to be largely original and free of any significant marks and we are confident all panels are the originals with all factory stickers intact. It drives very well with a perfect gearbox and clutch. To summarise J868 RHA is a very useable late Mk2 GTI, it's no show car but has very good provenance with a history going back to virtually day one and just 3 real owners. It also quite a rare colour!
